REEL I
Credits (.45); Baillie Brownlee in Cadisburn Glen (fictitious). He explains how he lost his seat on the town council (2.14); Hector takes a walk round the town having recently arrived home from the war. He stops by his old school and visits his schoolteacher, Miss Lindrum. Maggie Brownlee comes into the classroom and when she leaves Hector follows her. He catches up with her and asks if she would like to go for a walk in the glen. She takes him there and shows him the sign stating that the glen is up for sale (8.59); Hector chats with some locals in the pub. Later he goes to the town hall (10.15)
REEL II
No credits. Hector accidentally interrupts a council meeting voting on the sale of the glen. He meets Maggie outside and discovers that Baillie Brownlee is her father (2.05); The Brownlees at home discussing the sale of the glen. Maggie disagrees with her father and tells him she will do all she can to prevent the same (4.05); Hector in the pub. He visits Miss Lindrum and she suggests that is he wants to stop the glen being sold, he should try to get elected to the council. He meets Maggie and she has the same idea. She takes him home and gives him some of her father's books to read. Hector eventually registers for election (9.28); Hector addresses a crowd opposing the sale of the glen (10.35)
REEL III
No credits. The crowd get out of hand and Hector is injured (1.05); Maggie and Miss Lindrum speak in support of Hector at a meeting. Election campaigns under way. Shots of poster, leaflets, pipe bands. Brownlee makes a speech. Polling day. People vote. Hector discharges himself from hospital and arrives at the council chambers in time to hear that he has won Brownlee's seat. Hector makes a speech from the balcony to the assembled crowd (10.00); ecs (10.10)
