Description: The operation of a large East Lothian farm in the 1950's. The high level of mechanisation is detailed throughout the film. The areas of farming featured are :- potatoes ; turnips ; grain; sheep and cattle.

Shotlist: Grain running out of a chute into a large pile. (0.12) Man standing by a chute in the background. Tied sacks are in the foreground. (0.14) Gv's of sheep walking up a field followed by a man and two children. (1.12) Pile of newly dug potatoes in a field. (1.23) Men pitch forking potatoes onto a conveyer belt, where they are carried to the back of the machine to be sorted before bagging. (2.19) Gv of the activity around the machine. baskets are on the ground for the unselected potatoes. A man can be seen replacing an empty basket. The sacks of potatoes are weighed and then tied.(2.52) Tied sacks of potatoes are placed on another conveyer belt to a lorry where the sacks are loaded and driven away from the field. (3.54) Gv's of a red tractor in a field of ploughed earth. C/u to show three men perched on the back of a potato planter. C/u of the how the potatoes are placed by the men into little compartments of a wheel, which plants them in the ploughed earth. (6.11) The combines lined up, and the camera pans across to show that each operator is fine tuning some part of the mechanics of each machine.
